The king of gems. Colour, origin and heat treatment drive ruby value.
Colour
The most prized rubies show a pure, vivid red often called 'pigeon's blood'. Burma (Myanmar) and Mozambique are notable sources.
Treatments
Most rubies are heated. Glass-filled (lead-glass) rubies are heavily treated and worth a fraction of natural stones. A lab report should state treatment clearly.
