Emerald: Buying Guide
Emeralds are prized for colour over clarity — and almost all are treated with oil or resin.
Jardin and clarity
Inclusions in emerald are called 'jardin' (garden). Eye-visible inclusions are normal; what matters is colour, liveliness and stability.
Enhancement levels
Labs grade clarity enhancement as None, Minor, Moderate or Significant. Colombian emeralds with no or minor oil carry the highest premiums.
Care
Avoid ultrasonic cleaners and heat, which can remove oils.
