Coloured diamonds are graded by hue, tone and saturation — and the most intense are among the rarest gems on Earth.
Intensity grades
Faint, Very Light, Light, Fancy Light, Fancy, Fancy Intense, Fancy Vivid, Fancy Deep and Fancy Dark. Vivid stones command the highest prices.
Natural vs. treated colour
Colour can be added by irradiation, HPHT or coating. Always require a report that states 'Natural' colour origin from GIA or a similar lab.
