Brilliant shapes
Round, oval, pear, marquise, cushion, radiant and princess cuts have many triangular facets that maximise sparkle and hide inclusions.
Step cuts
Emerald, Asscher and baguette cuts have long rectangular facets, producing elegant 'hall of mirrors' flashes. They demand higher clarity.
Price differences
Rounds cost the most per carat because more rough is lost when cutting. Fancy shapes often give a larger look for the same budget.
