Riakoob's Insured Value and 12-Month Promise: A Buyer's Guide

Separate Riakoob's documented insured value, insured delivery and 12-month value promise from any ongoing policy protecting jewelry after purchase.

Three protections answer different questions

Riakoob describes its pieces as arriving with a certificate of authenticity, documented insured replacement value and insured delivery, alongside a 12-month value promise. Read these as separate commitments rather than a single blanket insurance policy. Authenticity concerns the description of the item; a valuation concerns a monetary estimate; transit protection concerns delivery; and the value promise concerns the purchase terms.

Start by saving the listing and asking which documents accompany the particular piece. The fact that a page uses the word insured does not tell you who underwrites a policy, who can claim, or which events it covers. Those questions require written terms. An explanatory blog post cannot replace the documentation applicable to your order.

What an insured replacement value tells you

Replacement value addresses the cost of obtaining an equivalent piece under a stated valuation basis. It is not necessarily the amount a dealer would offer to buy your jewelry, the melt value of its gold, or the amount an auction would achieve. Ask for the valuation date, currency, identifying description and basis so you understand what the number represents.

For an unusual jewel, replacing the materials may not recreate its design or provenance. Discuss that distinction with an appraiser and any proposed insurer. A documented value helps establish the record of the purchase but does not by itself establish that a policy is active or that an insurer has agreed to pay that amount.

Confirm the delivery arrangements

Riakoob's guarantee page describes insured delivery. Before dispatch, ask about the delivery address, signature arrangements, the appropriate contact if a parcel is missing or damaged and the terms applicable to the shipment. Avoid asking the courier to leave a high-value package unattended unless the seller confirms how that affects the agreed arrangements.

When the parcel arrives, retain the tracking record and packaging until you have checked the contents. Record any visible damage and notify the seller promptly. Do not assume a courier's declared-value field is the same as an insurance contract, and do not assume outbound delivery terms automatically cover a later return shipment.

Read the 12-month value promise separately

Riakoob's published guarantee describes a refund if an independent appraisal within 12 months of delivery values the piece below the price paid, upon return in original condition with its certificate. Read the current guarantee page and request clarification before purchase about the valuation basis, supporting evidence and practical return arrangements for your item.

A retailer's value promise is not the same as financial-market performance or insurance against theft, loss and damage. Do not use it as evidence that resale prices are fixed or that every change in market conditions creates an automatic payout. Preserve the terms supplied for your purchase and ask about anything the published summary leaves uncertain.

Arrange any ongoing protection from policy evidence

If you need protection while wearing, storing or traveling with the piece, request actual policy evidence from the relevant insurer or provider. Check the insured person, identified item, start date, territories, covered events, deductibles and settlement method. Neither the certificate nor the 12-month heading answers these questions.

Home and specialist jewelry policies vary by jurisdiction and contract. Ask whether the insurer accepts the supplied valuation or needs an independent appraisal, and whether temporary custody by a repairer or courier is included. Avoid a gap between delivery and your chosen policy's effective date by discussing timing before the piece arrives.

Keep one coherent purchase file

Store the invoice, saved listing, authenticity certificate, any laboratory reports, valuation and delivery correspondence together. Add photographs identifying the piece without publishing sensitive information such as your address or serial numbers. Keep a secure backup separate from the jewelry so a loss does not also destroy the supporting record.

Use the guarantee and contact pages below for Riakoob-specific questions; consult an insurer or qualified adviser for policy decisions. The NAIC and Jewelers Mutual links provide general United States insurance education, not terms governing an international Riakoob purchase. Your actual contract and local requirements determine the protection you receive.
